As the main contact point for all GDPR related issues, the European representative will not only help you comply with Article 27 of the regulation, but it will keep your mind at ease when it comes to dealing with any questions and issues that comes from concerned users of your service.
All companies that provide services or products in the European Union need to comply with the GDPR (Art 3). Without an office in EU you would need to appoint an EU representative (Art 27) based in EU as the contact person for GDPR and data protection questions. This role can also be covered by a virtual data protection officer.
By having a representative you will have a dedicated legal person dealing with emails and questions coming from your EU customers. The representative will also deal with any requests on your behalf from the EU commission as well as from all supervisory authorities in every EU country, plus countries in the EEA.
